What is Pet Pal Piper going to do next?!

Pet Pal Keli had the honor in caring for Pet Pal Piper and her sisters!!! Pet Pal Piper......where do I start?!

Let start here! Pet Pal Piper was found by her now Big Dog Sister, Pet Pal Kota. Kota was out in the backyard doing her dog thing when her nose led her to this little itty bitty 1 pound kitty. What is a dog to do? Come get Mom!!!

This kitty was under the shed. It was cold and raining, she was all alone, crying, weak as can be, and no mother in sight. Kota's Mom looked and looked for the mommy but no where. What is a caring, loving, person to do? Keep on the search for the cat mommy, call who needs to be notified, and bring the little fragile baby in.

Back a couple months ago, Piper officially became, Pet Pal Piper and Pet Pal Keli had the honor to care for this little baby!!!! Check out the live video footage on Pet Pals Facebook page of
Pet Pal Piper!!!

Fast Forward!!! To now! Pet Pal Keli had to honor of caring for this precious baby again! Sweet, innocent baby has now grown into a.....make your belly hurt from laughing, full of silly antics, sassy, sweet girl!!!

This is where the adventures of Pet Pal Piper begins!!! What Is Pet Pal Piper Going to do Next?!!!! Check out these videos below of this once fragile, needed to be fed on the hour, rescued little baby.....

Benefits of a Pack Walk -

The Story of Sioux Falls Pack Walk

My husband, Kyle, and I adopted Maverick on July 12, 2014 from Rescues Unlimited in Gregory, SD. He was our wedding gift to each other as we both wanted a dog, and he was (almost) perfect.
We quickly found out that we couldn’t take Maverick anywhere with us. He did not know how to walk on a leash, and he was incredibly reactive to dogs and strangers. Desperate to get advice on how to socialize him without any dogs getting hurt, I turned to a trusted Facebook group I had been following.
I had never heard of a pack walk before, but Stacie Hanselman and Michelle Kats kept telling me to trust them and go! Since I had worked on the “heel” command for a few weeks, I thought I could maybe give it a shot – confident I had it under control. I had never been so nervous before in my life! Did they really understand how aggressive my dog was?
I showed up to the dog park, butterflies in my stomach. I wanted to turn back, but I had already given my word that I’d be there. As soon as I got out of the car, Maverick growled and lunged…just as I had suspected. I tried to calm him down with treats, but he wouldn’t pay attention to me – his focus was on Stacie’s two little lovely (well-behaved) ladies and Michelle’s two laid back foster dogs.
The walk didn’t go much better. Maverick pulled hard the entire way, stressed beyond belief (yes, my biceps looked amazing after the walk!). Stacie and Michelle chatted on the walk about something called a Gentle Leader – I had never heard of this before, but after I saw what it did to other dogs, thought it might be worth a try.
The next pack walk we went on, Maverick wore his Gentle Leader (no more massive biceps for me!) but was still stressed. Every pack walk we went on after that, he steadily got better at socializing with dogs. Even though we never had any direct contact with dogs, he seemed more confident. Maverick would purposely try to walk close to Stacie’s dogs to smell them, and eventually tried to play! Yes, PLAY! I couldn’t believe my eyes! It took several weeks’ worth of walks, but he was finally comfortable around dogs, even to the point of playing with them at the dog park!

Maverick is still working on his manners with other dogs while he is on leash and off, but he is much more confident now, thanks to these pack walks!
Maverick’s story is the reason why we started our Pack Walk group.  A pack walk is a controlled, organized 3 mile dog walk. This aids in socialization for the dog, whether it is a well behaved dog, or a dog with social issues. There is no direct contact between dogs, so it helps the dogs learn to be around each other without reacting in a safe environment. The rules we have established ensures that everyone is respectful of everyone’s dogs and their different needs. We also lend a helping hand when needed, offer advice, and work towards you and your dog’s success.
These walks are more than social events. We are a support system for each other…a team. We do not judge or give rude glares as everyone is working for the same goal: we want you and your dog to be able to enjoy a walk together.
For more information and success stories, please join our Facebook group, Sioux Falls Pack Walk. Questions are always welcomed on our page!

Countdown to the Puppy Bowl

The one week countdown to the big game has started and Pet Pals is incredibly excited.  This year's game is poised be the biggest and best yet!  Additionally, the battle between brother coaches is all everyone is talking about, making what's been dubbed the 'Bowlnese' an epic game before it's even started.  That's right, Puppy Bowl IX, the biggest event on all fours is back and less than one week away.

Airing Sunday, Feb 3, @ 3 PM E/P on Animal Planet, this year's show is more creative than ever with all kinds of pets, tons of fun, and lots of cute puppies of course.  This year, the teams will be coached by two dogs from the same litter in honor of the two brothers coaching this year's Super Bowl teams.  Gunner and Zeus are 14-week-old Bernese Mountain Dog brothers with plenty of puppy experience and will be calling the plays that will most certainly lead to lots of puppy kiss tackles, tug-of-wars, and toys in the end-zones.

In all, there will be 63 puppies in this year's bowl game.  Each of the puppies are from shelters or rescues  and can be rafted into their forever homes for some well deserved love after their hard work on the field.  Animal Planet works with Petfinder to select the pups and will accept players from any breed or mix.

Puppies aren't the only pets featured during the Puppy Bowl though, with this year's game including at least;

  • a hamster flying the blimp over the stadium,
  • a kitten halftime show, including 21 kittens also from shelters and rescues and up for adoption,
  • hedgehog cheerleaders,
  • and the sideline reporter 'Meep the bird', who can also be followed on game day @MeepTheBird the for the latest news and behind the scenes moments.

There are also other great game features this year, including;
  • the ever popular Cute cam,
  • the water bowl cam,
  • a tail-gaitting party prior to the game,
  • and a puppy hot tub party for the players to relax after the big game.
Find out more about this year's Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet, where you can see this year's roster for both teams and even watch the festivities on game day.
